Chemicals Used in Oil Drilling

When it comes to the process of oil drilling, it needs a specialist mud and fluid that rotates not only into an oil well, but also into the entire depth of the well. Mud has a wide range of functions to perform and it offers pressure within the bore and make the rocks that show-off during drilling to stabilize. It offers cooling, lubrication and buoyancy mechanism to the drill. It also offer deferments created in the well in the process of drilling. These functions can be further made perfect when appropriate chemicals are used along with the mud. Details regarding some of the oil drilling chemicals are discussed in the content given below

Barite: You might be aware of limestone veins and here is where the mineral barium sulfate of barium occurs. It amplifies the heaviness of fluids and it also manages the pressure of the drilled rock formation. Thereby it protects from unnecessary leakage of water or gas or oil from rocks. It also controls fire accidents that might be caused due to massive or sudden escape of gas or oil from the bore well. As the depth of piercing increases, the level of barite in the mud will also increase.

Bentonite: When toughening of volcanic ash in water is done, the chemical that is formed is bentonite and it acts as a gel in water suspension.

Lignousulfonates: Do you know about the different byproducts of wood pulp production, one such byproduct is lignosulfonates. This oil drilling chemical is useful in avoidance of solids to become semi-solids.

Guar gum: Guar bean is a non-poisonous plant that is grown widely in Pakistan and in India. The beans from this plant is crushed for the formation of a white powder. This powder is used as a solidifying agent in the food making process and it is also used as a chemical in oil well drilling.

These are only a few chemicals to mention and there are also several other chemicals like potassium Formate, HEC, Potassium Chloride, calcium bromide, etc.… used in the drilling process. These chemicals can be purchased from some specialized firms dealing with different oil drilling equipment, rigs and workover rig, etc.…

When it comes to oil drilling equipment, different tools like tubing, Kelly, line pipe, downhole tools, oilfield fishing tools, sucker rod,  pipes and collars are needed. So, owners of oil wells can contact these firms for meeting all their requirements pertaining to equipment and chemicals required in the drilling process.
